Tips For Healthy Employees

activeLifestyle

I have been asked on several occasions if I have any ideas on how to get employees engaged in a healthy lifestyle.  There probably isn’t one pill that works for everyone and there are different definitions of what a healthy lifestyle is.  I have a client that has done an amazing job in getting their employees up and moving.  I would like to share some of what they have done with you.

I did an article previously about the Fit Bit, they started out by buying everyone a Fit Bit and they counted how many steps they did over the summer.  A prize was given out for the person with the most steps.  What they found was, employees banded together and pushed each other to go for walks at lunch or after work to win the prize.  These groups are still walking together.

When the employees started this program they then became interested in eating better.  So the next challenge was called “The Biggest Loser”, I was amazed when the employees told me how much weight they had lost since the start of the program.  This was followed by the next incentive to maintain the weight for a year.  Although there is a prize at the end of each of these programs, I think the biggest prize is the employees health and their enthusiasm for the programs.

This summer I feel they have come up with the best one yet, a Scavenger Hunt.  It is filled with activities and most of the activities are free or inexpensive.  Such as Yoga, every Sunday there is Yoga in the park for free.  Fishing, you apparently can rent fishing poles from the tourism office, hiking, canoeing, just to name a few.  Reading a couple books that are available from the library was also included.  This program has been so successful they already have ideas for next year’s Scavenger Hunt.

I hope that you can work with some of these idea can assist in getting your employees, Living a Life Worth Insuring!
