What is New With Insurance Apps?

Child on Phone 1200

Extended Health and Dental benefits are priced based on usage and administration costs.  I meet with my clients a couple times a year to review these areas with them and prepare them for their renewal.  Sun Life has come up with an app that will assist employees in making cost sensitive decisions on their health.  Sun Life seems to be the leader in the options available for their plan members with their App.

Their new App will provide;

  1. Cost Savings information on Paramedical Practitioners (Chiro, Massage, Physio, Naturopath, etc).  Although price is not the sole reason to choose a Paramedical Practitioner, it can assist in your decision.  Sun Life will add other features such as Medical Equipment at a later date.
  2. Drug Lookup Tool; you will be able to use your smartphone camera to scan the Drug Identification Number (DIN) on prescriptions and other over-the-counter medications for more information on usage recommendations, possible side effects and potentially lower-cost alternatives.
  3. Cost Savings Tips

When I met with Manulife last week they talked about how the technology and the Apps available through their benefit plans are making them more efficient and in return they are able to pass this savings on in their administration costs.

It is expensive to keep up with an ever changing world in technology but long term it is reducing errors and driving operating costs down.
