Out of Country & Covid Coverage, is it Coming?

I would like to thank Eugene Gleason for this photo of us just prior to Scuba Diving in Kenya, Africa.

If I might start with a little brag???

Tayne Steven, who I spoke about in my last Blog came in #5 in Canada in the races at Hydrofoil Regatta Kingston.  In case you were wondering, I saw 14 entries in the race.  He had an opportunity to train with the #1 Hydrofoiler in Canada, the week prior to the race.  He met with some of the scouts for the Canadian Team and had the opportunity to go through the Queen’s University and saw all that it had to offer.  I am sure we will be seeing more of this incredible young man.

Covid and Out of Country Coverage

Now to the rest of the Blog… I have had several people contacting me regarding Covid Insurance when they are travelling out of country.  I did a previous Blog that outlined the coverage offered through Group Insurance providers.

Air Canada has partnered with Manulife and West Jet has partnered with Allianz. Please be careful if you purchase this coverage, this is West Jet’s Covid-19 coverage:

  • Emergency medical and hospital costs for outbound travellers if diagnosed with COVID-19 while outside of Canada for up to a maximum limit of $200,000 CAD per insured person.

The amount of benefit for Covid-19 is very limiting.

Please be careful in purchasing insurance from more then one Insurance Company for your trip.  It doesn’t always mean that you can collect the maximum benefit from each of them.  They usually work together and you end up with the highest maximum benefit of one of the Insurance Companies.

To date, Covid-19 coverage purchased individually has not been something I have been able to offer my clients.  I have asked my clients to be patient, since I suspected this would change.  I received this last week from Allianz:

NEW COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan Coming Soon!

Dear Partner,

At Allianz, we appreciate Canadians are eager to resume their travel plans. We also recognize COVID-19 remains a major concern that is heightening the need for enhanced travel protection.

Throughout the pandemic, we have been providing COVID-19 emergency hospital and medical protection for visitors to Canada, international students and those travelling domestically, and will continue to do so.

Today, we are pleased to announce that in the coming weeks, we will be introducing a NEW COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan to help you protect your clients travelling outside of Canada, including travel to the United States. This plan will be an ideal complement to our Emergency Hospital and Medical and All-inclusive plans. Stay tuned for further details and training information that will be shared next week.

Now and always, the health and safety of our clients come first. As with every trip, clients are encouraged to review and adhere to any Government of Canada travel advisories, note risks for their destination, and make a decision that’s right for them.

We value the trust you have placed in our partnership and look forward to working with you to provide your clients with the protection and care they deserve.
