I have been very fortunate in my career to meet incredible people along the way. One lady who worked for a large insurance company, told me that the insurance company was working with their clients to “Find a Way to Yes”. I don’t believe anyone else in the insurance company got the memo, but this quote has stuck with me throughout my career.
What does it mean “Find a Way to Yes”? In my experience, it means that the insurance company gives a little and the client gives a little and we end up with a solution that can work for everyone. Also known as negotiating.
I recently have dealt with a Third Party Administrator that we were not able to find a way to yes for my client. It ended up costing me all the commission I had made and the client was left with a sour taste in their mouth. Did the insurance company win the battle, absolutely. Did they win the war, probably not? Will I feel comfortable placing any more business with them, Hmm Maybe/Maybe Not. I started my career in insurance working with this company and I have dealt with them for over 30 years. Needless to say, no one won.
On another note, I was in seeing a client last week and I asked a couple of the employees what would they like me to do my blog on this week. One of the employees came to me with a situation that I have not encountered before. Over 30 years in the business and I still have areas that I have to research, this is one of the many parts I love about my job. The insurance company declined their request and I am interested in why? And Can we find a way to Yes???
