I knew that different parts of the world paid different prices for prescriptions, and it wasn’t until I read the book 28: Stories of AIDS in Africa by Stephanie Nolen that I got a clearer understanding in how great the difference is. Not only the cost but how certain prescriptions are no longer produced because they are not required in the developed world. For example Zidovudine, which is required in Africa for Mother’s who have Aids and are giving birth. This book was written in 2010, and I hope that there have been changes to some of the practices since than.
By the way, this is a very good book and I feel it is worth a read if you are at interested in Africa.
