I wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season. Since I do not live near my family, I do understand that some people are spending some or all of the Holiday Season by themselves. I hope that everyone can reach out and share the season.
This gift was given to me by my Assistant Carrigan, who most of you know is extremely thoughtful. When I heard about the Aboriginal Schools, I decided it was time for me to learn more about the history of Canada from the First Nation’s side of the story.
I can’t say this has been a proud or easy path to go down, but as Carrigan wrote, I am trying to change my conversation. I have had some troubled nights where sleep did not come easy, due to some of the things I have read and learnt.
With this in mind, Carrigan gave me this beautiful Blanket and Scarf. The reason this gift is so special, is it is works of art from Indigenous artists, born in Canada. The blanket and scarf are part of a collection that helps support the Native Women’s Association of Canada. A voice for missing/murdered Aboriginal women in Canada.
I have just started reading 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act, and with that said, I will be looking for ways to support Native Women, and this is an easy one.
