Do Disability Benefits Just Pay Claims?

RBC

RBC Insurance is asking their insureds to contact them as soon as an employee is showing signs of an illness or injury.  Why would they do that?

As most of your know I worked for UNUM which was an American, Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance Company that came into Canada.  In November 2003 it was announced that RBC Insurance had purchased UNUM.  One of the nice things about the purchase is they didn’t change the already enhanced LTD benefit and in fact they have introduced more benefits.

One of the programs they have put in place is called Onward, and it is for early intervention on Mental Health.  Mental Health is one of the leading causes of disability.  This is an exert out of the Launch Information:

“Given that early intervention is critical when dealing with mental illnesses, the Onward by Best Doctors program provides rapid access to psychologists.  The program includes 12 therapy sessions that can be conducted digitally from the comfort of home, eliminating the stress and cost of travel to an appointment.  In addition, the program provides diagnosis and treatment recommendations from a leading psychiatrist to the client’s physician while assigning an advocate to each client to guide them throughout the entire process.”

Medical Confidence is another program that RBC Insurance has launched and once again they are asking for Insured’s to contact them as soon as they think they might require the assistance.  This is an exert from the benefit:

“If you have individual disability, critical illness or group disability insurance through RBC Insurance, Medical Confidence can be a life changer.

It provides the information you need to understand your medical condition and helps you access proper care and treatment within an appropriate timeframe.

Some benefits include:

  • Timely access to care and treatment
  • Access to the appropriate physician specialists
  • More accurate diagnosis
  • Shortened recovery time”
