The information that is presented in the CBC News report, “Universal Drug Plan Would Save Billions“, is that the Canadian Government wants to cover every Canadian for virtually every drug. By doing this their analysis is they would save Billions.
Sun Life provided the following information from Take your pills:
A huge number of people don’t take their medications properly. The costs for this are significant. Every year, medication non-adherence results in 5% of Canadian hospital admissions, 5% of physician visits, and contributes $4 billion to health care costs. It also contributes to faster disease progression, temporary disability , and increased absenteeism. There’s no question that all of these factors – as well as the health and wellbeing of the patient – could be positively affected if more people took their medication as prescribed.
I would like to hear your thoughts on this topic. Are people not taking their medication because:
- they can’t afford it,
- they forget,
- don’t think they need it anymore, or
- get their medication mixed up?
