When I was first presented with the idea of Virtual Health Care, I was skeptical. Why would we pay for health care advise when we have free health care? I spoke to a couple people who offer this benefit to their employees and it helped me to better understand how this fits into an Employee Benefit Program.
I will use Sun Life as an example and their product which is called Lumino Health Virtual Care. This product offers your employees and their family 24/7 hour access to a Health Care Practitioner. Can you imagine having a sick child and you can access assistance from the comfort of your home???
Lumino Health Virtual Care lets you connect with health-care professionals from home. With this service, you can:
- Chat with a nurse or doctor about your or a family member’s physical or mental health
- Receive a diagnosis
- Receive a prescription
The service is available 24/7, as long as you are within Canada. You can consult other health professionals (e.g. nutritionists) for an additional fee.
On average, the cost to add this benefit is about $3.50/employee/month.
