Is Best Doctors Part of Your Benefit Plan?

Best Doctors is included in the majority of the Employee Benefit Programs and some Individual Critical Illness policies, and I feel that this program isn’t promoted enough.  Empire Life put on a webinar about Best Doctors to provide more information on this benefit.  Basically, Best Doctors gives you a 2nd opinion on your medical diagnosis.  Which in Canada we are lucky if we have a Family Doctor, let alone receiving a second opinion.

Why was this benefit created?  There are over 70,000 websites that are medically related and over 10,000,000 health related searches.  These searches can sometimes lead to a wealth of information or take us down a rabbit hole that has nothing to do with the symptoms we are presenting.

A personal example is when I found a growth in my dog Max’s mouth and I researched it online.  In my eyes it was Cancer and the diagnosis was not good.  When I went to see the vet, it was a blocked duct and it would go away on it’s own.  As you can imagine, I was very relieved it was a blocked duct, because he is still with me.  He will be turning 14 years old this May.

There use to be a list of conditions that Best Doctors would provide a 2nd opinion on, now they are saying they will assist with “All Conditions”.

  • One call to Best Doctors is all that is required to start the wheel in motion.
  • There is no pre-existing condition, so even if you or a family member have an existing medical condition you can use this benefit right away.
  • Best Doctors pays to collect all the medical files and retests any pathology if there was a biopsy.

Other benefits available at a cost would be:

  • Best Care – they will find the best specialist, hospitals, etc.in the world for your condition.  However, the cost to using the services will be the patients.
  • Best Doctors 360 Degrees  – they will assist in helping to navigate the Health Care System,  your prescriptions, etc and help find care to get you to your appointments, if required.

I don’t say this very often, the benefit is part of your plan, why wouldn’t you use it?
